Eco-Friendly Way To Conserve Household Energy

There are many reasons why you want to adopt a green lifestyle, but saving money is probably close to the top. The furnace in all probability consumes the most energy in your house so you should see to it that it’s in good working condition. Just heating the household up accounts for approximately 60% of the energy costs. Every few months, the filter should be replaced, and this will help keep your furnace working efficiently. One option is to get a reusable filter and wash it regularly. Although these filters are costly in the beginning, you will save more in the long run. The energy efficiency of your furnace can improve as much as 50% by doing regular maintenance.

Since a great deal of energy is wasted at night or when nobody is home, it is a good idea to install a thermostat that is programmable. Being able to set the temperature a few degrees cooler, when no one is around, will save energy and money as well. Also, you can lower your energy costs by installing an insulation blanket for your hot water heater. They are easy to obtain and are not hard to install. The fiberglass blanket keeps heat in saving the hot water tank from burning more energy to heat water.

One other option to consider is to try using a tankless hot water. This is a good alternative if you are thinking of replacing your hot water tank. The tankless water system will just heat water when you need it instead of trying to keep a whole tank of water hot. The tankless water heating system consumes less energy so you’ll be saving up to 50% off your energy costs. Save money and energy by keeping your home cool the natural way. You can save some money in the summer if you use a ceiling fan and keep the sunlight out of your place. If you use air conditioning, be sure to set it at 75 degrees and just make it cooler if the heat becomes unbearable.

One more alteration that will cost in the beginning, but save you money in the long run, is replacing incandescent light bulbs. By deciding to use compact fluorescent bulbs, you can save up to 75% in energy use and these bulbs will last ten times longer. You will not only save money but you will have fewer scrap to toss. You can save as much as $30 per year by changing only five lightbulbs. The least complicated thing that we can do, is just switch off the lights when you don’t need them. We all leave the lights turned on so we will need to make a conscious effort to make it work.

If people make it a habit to turn the lights off each time they exit a  room, then they  can do it  for  all electronic appliances. It does not matter if you are using the internet to find information regarding college textbooks, compare used book prices or even books for college students you can easily find it online.
